How To Install A Peep Hole In Front Door
If you are like me, then you lot probably have never idea as well much about a peep pigsty in a door, except for thinking that it was probably too expensive and would exist too complicated to install ane… I'thousand happy to tell you lot that neither of those things are truthful. In fact, when we installed mine today it took usa less than v minutes, including clean-up, and information technology cost less than $ten. Seriously! If I had known it was that easy and that cheap/cheap I would have put i in our first and second houses and frosted the glass for more than privacy. Dang! Live and larn I approximate.
When I painted our door final Saturday, I decided that I really didn't want to take to patch the pigsty that was left in the door by a not-functioning wreath hanger, it was dangling and completely useless. Then I cleaned up the area around the hole and sanded it a chip before I painted it knowing that I wanted the peep hole to become there.
If you want to install a peep hole too, information technology saves the most time and coin knowing what supplies yous will demand so here is a list of what I used:
- Drill with fleck in the size described on peep pigsty package.
- Peep hole. They come up with or without a little shutter on them. I used this i without a comprehend. The ones with a cover tin can be establish here.
- Big flat head screw driver.
- Sanding block or dremel.
- Safety Glasses.
- Dust Mask.
- Vacuum.
*Please keep in heed that I installed this on a metal door. If you lot are installing i on a door made out of a different material, you lot may need to do a fiddling more research (like to avoid too much splintering on a wood door), but it volition should be quite similar to how we did ours. Also, make sure that y'all have purchased a peep hole that is made for the right thickness of your door. That would really suck to have a hole in your door and not be able to install anything into information technology.*
Ok, so the first thing that you practice is to decide where on earth you desire the peep hole. Mine was easy…like I mentioned earlier we put it right where the old wreath hanger was…it had been in a really odd spot on the door…like one/3rd of the manner down the door which would accept fabricated the wreath hang actually low and would not look skillful for staging my wreath photo'south…but information technology'south a decent peak for the peep hole so I went with the path of to the lowest degree resistance.
*I've got several other helpful posts down at the lesser and then make sure to go along on reading!
Side by side, after you put on your protective gear, y'all have the size of drill scrap that was specified on the peep hole packaging and drill a pigsty through the door in that spot that you decided on. Make certain to hold the drill straight so that the hole is even on both sides of the door.
Fifty-fifty with a metallic door, information technology still caused a little scrap of "splintering" which was gently sanded. I could non find my dremel micro anywhere (thanks kids, it would take been the perfect tool for this), so we used a sanding block to lightly clean up the edges. Y'all only need to do that on the inside side of the door though because the larger side of the "peep" function covers it all on the outside of the door. I'm going to exist repainting the inside of the door sometime before the freezing temps hit, so I'll clean that side upward even a bit more as I am working on that.
At present you accept the two pieces of the peep hole, the larger one goes on the outside, and they just spiral into each other… then you use the flat head screw commuter to tighten the inside slice a lilliputian bit more while holding the slice on the outside….and you lot're done. All that is left is to clean upward the mess. I did mention needing to apply a vacuum! Information technology makes a little bit of a mess, but it's not besides bad.
I could not believe it was this elementary! Seriously! It is literally and then cheap and easy that when I finally build my kids their playhouse, that I have been promising them for two years…cough, I may put 1 on there just for fun. This is something that could easily be accomplished during a child's nap fourth dimension…hint, hint. Make the most of that down time and even so have fourth dimension for yourself.
Now to notice the time to build a playhouse…heck, I'd love to just refinish and erstwhile i that no one is using so whatever of you out there that know me, if y'all know someone looking to get rid of one, or a pocket-size shed that could exist converted into one…I may be your girl to accept information technology off of their hands.
Goodness, it'due south by midnight so I'grand going to hit the hay. Delight make certain to share this postal service with anyone that may find it helpful! Thanks ~Sarah
P.S. I forgot to tell you lot that this project was part of my front door re-do to prep for my beautiful Fall décor post that I'one thousand working on…so make sure to check dorsum over the next couple of weeks and I should have it upwardly to look at.
